Authorities have identified the person killed in a motorcycle crash on the Clearwater Memorial Causeway Bridge on Sunday night as 26-year-old James E. Williams of Odessa.

According to Clearwater police, Williams was riding east at a high rate of speed when he began to descend from the crest of the bridge. He lost control of the 2006 Suzuki and drifted into the raised concrete media that separates the eastbound and westbound traffic.

Williams was ejected from the motorcycle and tumbled across the median until he struck the base of a sign and landed in the westbound lanes.

Police said Williams died upon impact and the motorcycle eventually came to rest about 200 yards from the point of impact.

The westbound side of the causeway was closed from 7:25 p.m. to 11:15 p.m.
