A violent home invasion left a suspect dead and one of the victims wounded in Crystal River late Wednesday night, deputies said.

According to reports from the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, the victims said a pair of armed, masked men kicked in front door and ordered the woman to the floor.

The woman's son, who heard her screams, came out from a back room armed with a gun, deputies said.

Multiple shots were fired.  Gunshots hit one of the suspects and the 25-year-old man, deputies said.

The suspect, Shawn Michael Wright, 42, of Citrus Springs, died in the front yard of the victims' residence on Cedar Lake Drive in Crystal River.

The victim was taken to a local hospital by his mother for treatment. He has since been released.

For safety reasons, detectives are not releasing the man's identity at this time.

Neighbor Don Huber, who lives next door to the home, said he was shocked.

"It's one of those things, you don't think it will happen in your neighborhood, but it does," he said.

Peter Sobel, who also lives in the neighborhood, said he no longer feels safe in the area.

"It really shakes you up," he said.  "It really does."

The second suspect, who is also believed to be wounded, was last seen wearing denim pants and a dark-colored shirt.  Witnesses said he sped from the scene in an unknown vehicle.  He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

If anyone has information about this crime or the identity of the second suspect, please call 911 or contact Crime Stoppers of Citrus County, Inc. at 1-888-ANY-TIPS.
