The City of Tampa began accepting applicants for Tampa's domestic registry list today.

The city has expanded hours for the first two weeks of registration from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those hours will be reduced to 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 9.

The application fee is $30.

The new legislation gives unmarried and same-sex couples in domestic partnerships within the city protection when making hospital visits, medical decision and funeral arrangements.

It also allows partners to be notified in emergencies.

The city council voted unanimously to approve the registry earlier this year and Buckhorn signed the bill into law in April.
