A hero rode in on a dirt bike to save the people of Oldsmar from an unexpected water drought.

As a result, the pews were a little thinner than usual at Community United Methodist Church in Oldsmar on Sunday. "Never have we ever been out of water -- ever," church member Arnold Harris said.

The congregation offered up a prayer for the city to find the leak and return water to their homes and businesses. "In your great mercy Father, would you identify for the Public Works Department where the water main break is," Pastor Sallie Vandervolt. said.

Maybe it worked; maybe somebody was listening. Maybe Roy was listening. Roy?

Shortly after noon, the source of the water leak was found near Tampa Road and St. Pete Drive. City crews who have been working non-stop to find the leak didn't find it, but the man who identified himself only as Roy located the leak that has left Oldsmar residents with little or no water pressure since early Saturday.

"I wanted to have water on," Roy told Bay News 9 after he found the leak Sunday. "So, I got my dirt bike out and started looking for where the problem was." Roy has lived in Oldsmar for nearly 30 years and he knew the ins and outs of the city as he started his search.

He spotted the leak in a canal near 580 Corporate Center. "The water was clear in the ditches and then I tracked it back," Roy said. According to the city, the leak Roy found was confirmed in an 8-inch pipe.

The city isn't sure how long it will take to fix the leak. In the meantime, their priority is restoring water to thousands of residents.

City spokesperson Ann Stephan was perfectly happy to thank Roy for finding the leak. "We are by, for and of the people," she said. "This is just another example of the community coming together."

Stephan said its probably still a good idea for residents to fill jugs of water at the city's two temporary watering stations until the problem is fixed, and resident should still boil water for a minute before cooking or drinking.

Back at the church, the congregation is breathing a little sigh of relief after a little divine intervention paid off from Roy on his dirt bike.
