In Polk County, residents will soon be able to find out what's in store for U.S. 27 improvements.
The Florida Department of Transportation is hosting an open house next Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Polk County Sheriff's Office, 1100 Dunson Road.
The roadway improvement project at U.S. 27 will be widened from four to six lanes from north of Richie Road to south of Barry Road. It is expected to begin within weeks and continue through spring 2014.
Besides the extra lanes, the affected section of U.S. 27 will get improved traffic signals, lighting, sound barrier walls, sidewalks, bike lanes and pavement markings.
