Sheriff Chris Nocco is one step closer to holding on to his position after Tuesday's primary election.

Nocco defeated two republican challengers, Maurice Radford and Roger Fortney, to win his party's primary election.  He will face Democrat Kim Bogart in November.

Nocco said the win is "humbling.

“This just shows Pasco County- they support the sheriff’s office. It was never about me. It’s about the direction we’re heading in," he said.

Nocco thanked supporters and spoke about how the sheriff's office will unite communities.

"It’s not about rhetoric, it’s about results. The past year has been about results,” Nocco said. “When they want to talk about experience, they can see what we’ve done the past year. It’s not a fluke – one week is a fluke. A year is experience and that’s the direction we’re heading in. I think citizens want a sheriff’s office that’s tough, innovative and they want the sheriff’s office to continue moving forward.”

Former Florida Secretary of State Kurt Browning is another one of the county's winners, unseating incumbent Heather Fiorentino in the race for Superintendent of Schools.

Incumbent Mike Wells defeated Walter Price in the Republican primary for Property Appraiser. He will face Democrat Allison Newton in the general election.
