Ever drive around Tampa or Orlando and feel like your fellow drivers might someday be the death of you? You're not alone.

Orlando is at the top of a government list of most unsafe cities to drive in and Tampa came in at #8.

Florida's biggest cities made the top 10 on the unsafe cities list:

The 10 safest cities:

  4. Hartford, CT
  5. Newark, NJ
  6. Plano, TX
  7. Providence, RI
  8. Salt Lake City, UT
  9. Santa Ana, CA
  10. St. Paul, MN

The findings are from the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Researchers compared crash rates across cities and in the 50 most densely populated metropolitan areas in the US in 2009.

The overall rate of fatal crashes in the US is 11.1 per 100,000 residents. In Orlando, the rate is 19.4 per 100,000 residents.

The rate of fatal motor vehicle crashes was highest in the southeastern United States, and among people aged 15 to 24 years old, the death rate was higher. Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among young people.
