The Ron Paul party scheduled to take place at Ferg's in downtown St. Petersburg has been cancelled.

The organizers of the event told Ferg's the roadblocks and security put in place for the RNC Welcome Party at the Trop Sunday night have made it too difficult for people to access the area.

The City of St. Petersburg has announced an "event zone" that is closing off traffic and prohibiting certain items  during the event and the days leading up to it.

Under the proposal, the 7.4 square mile area would surround Tropicana Field the entire week of the convention, but most of the restrictions would be in effect for the Aug. 26 kick-off party.

Items prohibited within the zone include bottles, fireworks and coolers.

Some of the major road closures include 1st Ave. S. and 5th Ave. S. from 8th St. to 18th St., Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr St from Burlington Ave. to 5th Ave. S. and 16th St. from Central to 7th Ave. S. The ramps on and off 275 at 4th Ave S. and 5th Ave. S will also be closed.
