They work to help give stray pets new homes - but now a branch of the SPCA in Lakeland is in need of a new home themselves.

The retail store in Lakeside Village shopping center, responsible for hundreds of adoptions, is losing its donated space.

"We've been very successful here,” said Heidi Biedenkapp. “We have been here for almost four years and we have done about 500 adoptions out of this facility."

But now they are the ones in need.  The free space at Lakeside Village has been a generous donation - one that's now going to a paying tenant.  SPCA has to be out this week.

"We're looking for someone to step up and donate a retail store front for us," said Biedenkapp.

They'd like a spot in a high-traffic area with good visibility, where they can continue raising money for operations at the main facility through boutique and pet supply sales.

The store's last day is Wednesday.  Until then, everything in the store is 30-percent off.  Adoptions are still being done at the main facility on Brannen Road in Lakeland, however, for now the retail store has stopped adoptions and is focusing on moving out their retail items.
