A 19-year-year-old man is behind bars, charged with trying to rape a 96-year-old woman in Tampa Tuesday morning.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says Andrew Whitfield, of Hoffman Boulevard, knocked on the victim’s door and claimed to have her newspaper.
Deputies say Whitfield and the woman know each other.
When the victim opened the door, deputies say he forced his way inside, pushed her onto a couch, and ripped off her clothes.
The Sheriff’s Office report says Whitfield then undressed himself and touched her in a sexual way.
Once the suspect left, the victim called 911.
Deputies say Whitfield tried to flee from detectives once in custody.
Whitfield faces charges of sexual battery, burglary, battery, and resisting arrest.
