A New Port Richey man is in critical condition after a woman he met on an Internet dating site and her son moved into his home and beat him up and robbed him, authorities say.

Bobbie Joe Curtis, 40, and her son, who is not being named because he is 16 years old, were arrested and have been charged with unlawful imprisonment, aggravated battery, attempted homicide and grand theft auto. A third suspect, an adult woman known as “Nessa” remains at large.

The 44-year-old man, who has not been identified, met Curtis on the dating site Singlesnet.com and soon invited her and her son to live with him at a house on the 13100 block of Midvale Avenue. The home is in the Moon Lake area of west Pasco County.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, the Curtises had only been living at the home for about a week when they assaulted the man Friday. Robert Groening, a next door neighbor, remembers meeting Curtis.

“I met her, sort of, because I kind of introduced myself to her she was kind of standoffish and didn’t really talk to me,” he said.

Investigators said the victim was tied up and beaten in his home and that the crime was interrupted when a 69-year-old neighbor noticed the suspects loading the victim's property into his van.

When the neighbor entered the victim's home to check on him, the neighbor was hit in the in the head with a baseball bat, investigators said. The neighbor regained consciousness and called 911.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office was called at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and when deputies arrived, they found the 44-year-old man unconscious with serious head injuries.

The neighbor did not suffer life-threatening injuries, but both men were taken to a hospital.

Acting on tip, deputies found and arrested the Curtises at the Riverside Inn in New Port Richey. Neither the third suspect nor the stolen van was found at the hotel.

The white Ford van has Florida Tag No. 366 TQH and may be in the possession of the third suspect, investigators said. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (727) 744-7711.

“We keep saying if anybody knows where Nessa is, if anybody is associated with her, give her up now because, if not, we’re going to be knocking on your door,” said Sheriff Chris Nocco.

The case was originally mischaracterized as a home invasion.
