A DUI suspect who led deputies on a brief chase early Saturday has died from injuries he sustained after crashing into a tree, deputies said.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, deputies attempted to pull over a car shortly after 1 a.m. at 18th Avenue North and 28th Street. The driver refused to stop and accelerated south on 25th Street North.

Deputies briefly gave chase before terminating the pursuit, the sheriff's office said.

Still traveling at a high rate of speed on 25th Street North, the fleeing vehicle crashed into a tree near 11th Avenue.

Driver Joshua Hall, 22, was seriously injured and was removed from life support late Sunday and was pronounced dead later that night, deputies say.

Three passengers in the car suffered minor injuries, deputies said.

Deputies said Hall was driving on a revoked license and that multiple bags of marijuana and open containers of alcohol were found in the vehicle.

An autopsy will be conducted.
