Saturday, SPCA Florida rescued 15 dogs through its partnership with Pilots N Paws.

The pets were flown into Lakeland Airport from Charlotte as part of the group's annual fly-in event.

The dogs then traveled to Campus of Kindness in Lakeland where they are being examined before being put up for adoption.

PNP is a non-profit organization that saves dogs and cats by moving them away from areas facing severe pet overpopulation.

"Change to pet overpopulation is slow to come in the south, but we are making progress by bringing education and awareness," said PNP co-founder Debi Boies.

SPCA Florida has worked with PNP for three years and participated in more than 50 transfers.

The big annual event involved 80 pilots and transferred 300 animals across the country.

Anyone interested in adopting the dogs may visit the SPCA adoption center Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
