Former Gov. Charlie Crist took the stage to support Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention Thursday, in what some call a dress rehearsal for a 2014 run for Florida governor as a Democrat.

Crist announced in August that he is endorsing President Barack Obama.

In his speech Thursday, Crist said Republican candidates Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan were beholden to "my way or the highway" bullies who bankrolled ads and were allergic to the idea of compromise.

In an interview first with Florida Decides, Crist said he will be campaigning with President Obama in Florida this weekend.

He also invoked Ronald Reagan, who he has often called a hero, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who recently said that Reagan himself may have found a very different Republican party today when it fcomes to compromise.

Crist changed his voter registration to no party affiliation after he dropped out of the 2010 Republican Senate primary and ran as an independent.

Republicans called the decision political opportunism and pointed out Crist has previously criticized the president on issues such his health care overhaul.

In fact, during Crist's speech Thursday, The Republican Party of Florida retweeted old tweets from Charlie Crist in 2010 when he ran for Senate. The tweets criticized the health care law.

Crist never mentioned the law in his speech Thursday, but he did say Romney and Ryan would "break the fundamental promise of Medicare."

Many speculate that he will return to politics as a Democrat and possibly challenge his Republican successor, Rick Scott, for Governor of Florida in 2014.
