The city of Seminole Fire Rescue is going green in its firefighting efforts.

The department is getting a truck that's part of a new generation of green fire apparatus that leaves a very small carbon footprint. The truck actually cleans its own exhaust, emitting only water and nitrogen into the atmosphere.

The 2013 Pierce Impel will be put into service Feb. 1 after crews get to learn about the truck.

Engine 29 will be housed at Fire Station 29, at 11195 70th Avenue N., and will respond as an advanced life support unit with firemedics and EMTs.

Equipped with a compliment of ALS and fire equipment, the new truck can pump water from a 500-gallon water tank foam from a 40-gallon foam tank. It features LED lighting, a computer terminal for receiving incident information and state-of the-art technology that will permit firefighters to respond efficiently to scene situations.

Residents can see Engine 29 on from 3 noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 10 at the annual Seminole Fire Rescue Open House at Fire Station 29.
