Thousands of tiny pirates turned out for the Gasparilla Children’s Parade, after a day filled with children's activities.

By 3:30 p.m., Bayshore Boulevard in South Tampa was once again turned into a marauder’s alley.

More than 100 floats, bands, dancers and community organizations took part in this bead-throwing extravaganza.

They made their way down the street slowly, playing music and calling out the cheering crowds.

Not only do kids take center stage along the parade route, they have prominent spots on the floats too.

Parents enjoy this parade for the alcohol free, family atmosphere.

More than 100 Girl Scouts from the West Florida region piled into three different floats. They girls were poised at the front of the parade, ready for screaming bead-seekers.

And like the other Gasparilla crews, the Krewe of Santa Margarita invited children to be a part of their festivities as well.

The children’s parade has been a part of the Gasparilla season since 1947.

Next Saturday is the Pirate Festival, with a flotilla invasion of Tampa, an invasion brunch and the Parade of Pirates.
