Thousands showed up to the Hernando County Fairgrounds Saturday to protect their guns.

The gathering is apart of the Guns Across America Second Amendment Rally. Its one of many taking place across the country.

Second Amendment supporters showed up in force with plenty of signs and flags to listen to more than a dozen speakers talk about why the Second Amendment to the Constitution is so important.

Since the massacre in Newtown, many people are asking for more laws to prevent gun violence. Some gun owners said the country doesn't need any more gun control laws.

"Anybody who is asking for more gun control has no idea what laws are already out there," Melissa, a gun supporter said. "There's already gun control. I mean if you just go to your local pawn shop and try to buy a gun you can't without taking certain measures."

Robert Santoro believes every American should have the right to defend themselves, even with high capacity magazine rounds.

"If somebody's home alone and three or four guys come in and do a home invasion and you're bounded by the law that says seven rounds in your magazine. And the bay guys have a lot more, you're dead. And so is your family," Santoro said. "So there's a completely logical reason why we civilians have a right to high capacity magazines."

Some gun owners do agree more time and energy needs to be focused on the mental health of a person and not about limiting weapons.

"We're blaming law abiding citizens and trying to limit law abiding citizens' individual rights to keep and bear arms because of somebody else's criminal activity," Damon Locke, the rally's organizer said. "We need to look at the base of the problem which is mental illness."

For the foreseeable future, it seems the gun conversation will continue. And Second Amendment supporters want to make sure their rights are apart of that debate.
