Tampa radio show personality Todd "MJ" Schnitt took the stand Tuesday in his defamation lawsuit against rival radio show host Bubba the Love Sponge Clem.

Schnitt is suing Clem over comments made on-air in 2008. Last week, Clem told jurors MJ and his wife, Michelle, then an assistant state attorney, were "fair game" because they are public figures. Schnitt, who is suing for an undisclosed amount of money, got to tell his side of the story Tuesday afternoon.

Schnitt said he considered himself "a broadcaster in good standing in this community."

When his attorney, Phil Campbell, asked him if he believes he is still in good standing today, Schnitt replied, "I consider myself a broadcaster in good standing, but not as good as it used to be."

He said Clem's comments when he returned to radio in January 2008 directly impacted him.

"In 2008 into 2009, I started getting many, many emails and phone calls at the radio station and (having) encounters in public that were just angry, vulgar, just confrontational, yelling at me, essentially reiterating the things that Mr. Clem had said about me and my wife on his radio show when he returned in 2008," Schnitt said.

Schnitt said he never received that kind of reaction before 2008.

"When Mr. Clem returned in January 2008, there was a seismic shift in the types of email I was getting," Schnitt said. "Subject lines - I was just seeing angry, vulgar, violent, confrontational subject lines. It was a complete shift from what I had been receiving for the previous 14 years."

Earlier, more members of Bubba the Love Sponge Clem's radio show took the stand. They said the Tampa shock jock's alleged verbal attacks on fellow Tampa DJ Todd "MJ" Schnitt were all about a radio war, not character assassination.

Matthew Lloyd, a 102.5 The Bone FM personality known as "Spice" on the radio, was a member of Bubba's show five years ago when the alleged verbal attacks took place.

"The goal was to be No. 1 in the ratings," Lloyd said. "MJ had the number one slot, and the goal was to win."

Schnitt's lawyer asked Lloyd, who could be heard laughing in the background of one of the clips, if he thought calling Schnitt's wife a bad name was funny. Lloyd said it was all part of the game.

"We were talking crap about another show...," Lloyd said.

Lloyd was then asked if liked radio wars.

"I love it," he said. "It's fantastic."
