Detectives arrested an elementary teacher in Pinellas Park on Friday after deputies say they found videos of young girls on his computers.

John Kaneski, a 42-year-old teacher at Cross Bayou Elementary in Pinellas Park, was arrested at his Dunedin home. Deputies have charged him with 10 counts of possession of sexual performance by a child.

According to the sheriff's office, his arrest is the result of a two month undercover internet investigation on individuals sharing and possessing child pornography. When deputies issued a search warrant at his home, Kaneski's wife, 8-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son were home.

Deputies interviewed Kaneski who admitted to downloading the child pornography found on his computer. According to the report, the computer had videos of young girls, ages 8 to 12, having sex with older men and each other, as well as hundreds of images of child pornography.

Deputies said when asked how long he had been downloading, watching, and viewing the content, Kaneski couldn't remember.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said Kaneski was not only viewing the porn, but downloading it and sharing it, as well.

"He wasn't just downloading it and viewing it himself.  He had his own library.  And he was also distributing it out to others and sharing it," said Gualtieri.

Kaneski is also under investigation in a sexual assault case involving a young girl, but officials won't say if she is a student at the school.

He also faced similar charges back in 2005 when he was a teacher at Curlew Creek Elementary, but the charges were eventually dropped when the girl recanted her allegations.

Sheriffs said most of the children in the videos are unidentifiable because they are most likely from other countries, since the videos were shared throughout the internet.

"The fact that he's had access to kids by being a teacher in the schools is very concerning," Gualtieri said.

Sheriff Gualtieri said there are so many cases like this in Pinellas County that his office simply can't keep up with it and there's just not enough manpower to handle all these cases.

He did say he is ramping up the number of investigations because the number of cases are growing exponentially.

Kaneski is a teacher of English as a second language at Cross Bayou Elementary School.

"It's not only hard to understand, it's just incomprehensible, especially a person who is in that position," said Don Hess, who lives across the street.  He said he just couldn't believe a teacher would act that way.

And with Kaneski's arrest, the Sheriff says his office has begun to take a much more aggressive and pro-active approach to these types of crimes and with that, he also has a strong message for anyone involved in the world of child pornography.

"Knock this off," Gualtieri said.  "This is absolutely atrocious.  A great threat to public safety.  A great threat to our kids."

Investigators still have to sift through the rest of Kaneski's computer.

He is now being held at the Pinellas County Jail on $200,000 bond. Each of those ten counts means a maximum of five years in jail if convicted.
