Duke Energy has scheduled another round of layoffs at its Crystal River nuclear plant, that’s according to Bay News 9’s news partner at the Citrus County Chronicle.

Duke Energy filed the notice with the state last week announcing the November 30th layoff of another 24 employees.

The layoffs were first announced in February when Duke decided to close the plant.

At that time it had 600 full-time workers.

A Duke spokeswoman said while some employees are being laid off many are being reassigned within the company.

Currently about 300 employees remain on site.

On September 24, Duke announced that Citrus County is the preferred location for a planned natural gas fueled power plant.

The company reports that similar size projects have created several hundred construction jobs and about 60 full-time jobs once the plant is operational.

The plant is expected to be in service prior to the end of 2017.
