A man was arrested on Wednesday after police said he shot and killed his pregnant girlfriend at her apartment.

According to officials, the shooting happened inside 22-year-old Brianna Anderson's apartment on the 900 block of Chestnut Street in the North Boulevard Housing Project around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Anderson was 8-months pregnant.

Police said that Anderson's family said their final goodbyes and they will be donating her organs.

It was earlier in the day that emergency crews responded to the scene and found Anderson showing no signs of life but police say they were able to resuscitate her in the ambulance.

"And then en-route to the hospital, she coded and they were able to revive her," said Laura McElroy of the Tampa Police Department.

Once at TGH, Anderson was put on life support while her unborn baby was delivered by emergency cesarean section.

Neighbors said Anderson is also the mother of a 3-year-old boy.

"For something like this to happen, especially you see someone you see on a daily basis, is just kind of hurts," said Maurice Harris.

Harris said there’s one image from the scene he won’t soon forget.  He remembers Anderson’s son sitting on the street after the shooting.

"He was saying, my mom's been shot," said Harris.  "My mom's been shot.  My mom's been shot.  He just kept saying that over and over."

This shooting happened right next to Blake High School and as a result, Blake, as well as four other area schools, were put into a modified lockdown state, meaning all afternoon activities were canceled.

Neighbors like Seneca James, who has four kids of her own, are outraged.

'”That it was gruesome,” said James. “That it was cold-hearted."

Seneca said the baby is lucky to be alive.

"Well, thank God for that,” Seneca said.  “That you know that there's a God upstairs."

Police caught up with the suspect at around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Selma and Mayfield Streets in Seminole Heights.

He was taken into custody without incident and police say he is expected to face attempted murder charges.
