A Bay area truck driver has something to brag about.

Alan DeWitte has been driving trucks for Walmart since 1991. His home base is the Walmart distribution center in Hernando County.

This summer he hit a major milestone in the company. He's covered three million miles without causing an accident.

"You have to remind yourself to be careful all the time and those last few weeks, I mean, were unbearable, but luckily we made it," DeWitte said.

Three million miles is like going to the moon and coming back six times. There are 7,200 drivers on the road for Walmart and only 90 have been three million miles without an incident.

"You are given a responsibility. You are given a job and I just try to do it the best that I can do it," DeWitte said.

Walmart is rewarding DeWitte by moving him into a new rig that has his name on the door.

"It is absolutely outstanding what he has accomplished," said James Smith, DeWitte’s manager.

DeWitte's record is even more impressive, if you take into account his entire career as a trucker. In the 40 years he's been on the road, he's traveled five million miles without causing an accident.

"Seeing different places, you enjoy that, but it is just knowing that I've conquered this beast and I can drive it where it needs to go," DeWitte said.
