Less than a month after unexpectedly losing its title sponsor, organizers of St. Petersburg's grand prix auto race have landed a new sponsor.

The 2014 race, set for March 28-30, will be known as the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Honda had served as the title sponsor for the previous nine editions of the race, but the automaker pulled out last month, leaving promoter Green Savoree St. Petersburg scrambling for a replacement. Title sponsors provide a substantial chunk of the revenue needed to make the event possible.

“Firestone has been a first-rate (secondary) sponsor of our event for the past nine years, and we can only express gratitude for having a partner who understands the value of our event,” grand prix president Tim Ramsberger said. "It speaks volumes about Firestone and what we have built with all of our partners in our wonderful community.”

General public tickets for the race will go on sale Dec. 1. All tickets will be available at gpstpete.com or by calling 877-283-5385.
