While the weather may be cooling down this week for Thanksgiving, tourists are still soaking in the sun on Anna Maria Island.

David and Christine Hall have been visiting Anna Maria Island for 15 years and are excited for the week ahead.

"Watch TV, read a book, ride a bike, its all there," said David Hall. "I can't get enough of it."

The Halls travel to Florida from England each year and say they enjoy seeing more people on the island.

"I don’t mind it being busy at all," said Christine Hall.

"Americans celebrate holidays more then we do in England. We have what we call a bank holiday the equivalence of Thanksgiving or spring break and life goes on as normal. But here it's an excuse to party," said David Hall.

The couple says this week is their favorite time to come, so they booked their tickets well in advance.

"Yeah we booked it in March," said Christine Hall.

Many of the hotels are booked or close to capacity for the week of Thanksgiving on Anna Maria Island.

David Teitelbaum is the manager of four resorts on Anna Maria Island including Tourtuga Inn. He said this year Thanksgiving week occupancy is up by 12 percent.

"We have four resorts, one is totally full, one is almost full, and two of them are going to be filling up," said Teitelbaum.

The city should find this week a positive financial boost during what is normally a slow time on the island.

"We are getting all week customers this year," said White Sands Beach Resort owner Jeffrey Gerry. "I know a lot of the schools are doing week vacations over the Thanksgiving holidays, lwhich of course increases your revenue. As long as the people are out here they are spending more money.

"One thing you do on vacation, you tend to eat out a lot and you tend to spend a lot which makes it fortunate for everyone on this island."

Tourists will be gobbling up all that AMI has to offer.
