A Clearwater man died and his wife injured after they were involved in a three-car crash in Oldsmar Wednesday.

The crash happened 2:47 p.m. at the intersection of Tampa Road and St. Petersburg Drive.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, 65-year-old Marie Mikuliza was driving west on Tampa Road when she made a left turn onto St. Petersburg Drive and drove her Cadillac DeVille into the path of a Jeep Liberty and a Ford Fusion.

The drivers of the Jeep and the Ford both hit the brakes in an attempt to avoid hitting the Cadillac, but they were unable to do so.

Mikuliza's husband, 80-year-old Joseph, was in the passenger seat at the time. Deputies said the impact trapped him in the car, and it took crews 30 minutes to extricate him. He was taken by air to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died from his injuries at 4:17 p.m.

Mikuliza was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment of injuries described as not life-threatening.

The other drivers were not injured in the crash.

Deputies said it does not appear as though speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.
