An investigation is underway after human bones were found near railroad tracks in Tampa, police said.

Tampa police said a homeless person called to report seeing bones in the area near Sligh Avenue and 22nd Street N, between the road and the railroad tracks.

Officers responded to the area and found several bones.

A team consisting of detectives, the Medical Examiner and anthropologists from the University of South Florida are searching the area for any additional evidence, including more bones.

The Medical Examiner has confirmed the bones are human. Police said there are no obvious signs of foul play and it could be days or weeks before more information is available.
