Army Specialist Justin Kyle Adams was excited to be returning home.

Stationed in South Korea, Adams was scheduled to return to Largo on Dec. 19 for the holidays. He had let family and friends know on Facebook when he would be home.

But the 21-year-old was killed two weeks ago while conducting reconnaissance for a future training mission near the Rodriguez Live Fire Complex in Yeoncheon, South Korea. Adams and Maj. Evans Hanson, 35, of Texas were found dead Nov. 22 after their Humvee flipped in a river.

Spc. Adams' family and friends met a flight returning his body to Tampa International Airport on Wednesday night.

Family members said he had a love for music. He played the drums and sang in school choirs. They also said he was passionate about sports and enjoyed mentoring children.

Spc. Adams was a member of Pathways Community Church in Largo.

Pastor David Shaefer remembers baptizing him in March of last year.

"He was quiet natured," said Schaefer. "He was very polite, he treated me as a gentleman. In other words, he would say 'yes sir' and I liked him as a person."

Family members issued a statement saying "Justin was a remarkable person and our family was and continues to be extremely proud of him. We hope what people remember most about him was his sincere love for everyone and everything in his life."

"Justin was a loving individual, he loved people," said Schaefer.

The Patriot Guard Riders escorted Adams' family to the airport and rode to the Moss Feaster Funeral Home at 693 S. Belcher Road.

Family members said Spc. Adams joined the military because he wanted to be a hero. They said they find solace in knowing he lived his life without regret and they say his legacy of kindness will live on.
