A bicyclist was seriously injured Wednesday morning when he was hit by a semi truck in Winter Haven.

The crash happened at 10:25 a.m. on U.S 17 near Snively Avenue.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, a white semi truck that was hauling a 53-foot box trailer was heading northbound and attempting to turn onto Snively Avenue when it collided with Richard M. Pasquin, 53, who was riding a bicycle at the time.

One of Pasquin's arms was crushed by the truck's tires.  Witnesses helped Pasquin and stayed with him until emergency crews arrived. He was taken by air to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he was last listed as being in serious but stable condition.

Investigators said that neither speed nor impairment appears to be a factor in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
