Clearwater police say an officer was forced to shoot and kill and aggressive pit bull Saturday morning

The officer was dispatched to a home on the 2100 block of Northeast Coachman Road concerning a complaint about the dog. The officer says the animal charged him multiple times and refused to back down after he used his baton to protect himself.

Police say the dog continued to charge, forcing the officer to draw his gun and shoot the animal.

The officer, who was not identified, was not injured.
