Another Carnival cruise ship is facing technical difficulties, and this one is based out of Tampa.

The Carnival Legend is skipping a stop in the Grand Cayman Islands and returning to Tampa due to problems with the ship's sailing speed.

Legend set sail last Sunday from Tampa on a 7-day western Caribbean cruise.

The ship, with a crew of 930 and about 2,000 passengers, was on the last leg of its trip before the propulsion issues arose. Carnival officials said crews tried to make repairs but could not fix the issue. The ship's safety systems and hotel services are all functioning normally.

Don Weinzierl knows people on board the Legend and is staying in touch through texts.

"Well, the boat's not fixed either, so we're not sure what the rest of the cruise is going to look like, it's been crazy, what a crazy day."

Don received that message yesterday.

Weinzierl says some cruisers are not letting it ruin their vacation, but others are angry.

A text today says things are looking better:

"The ship is now up to 18 knots and they are picking up speed and on course and they say so far everything is good."

While things could be worse, Weinzierl says something needs to be done.

"They're gonna have to get these things in dry dock, find out what the problems are, they're dealing with thousands and thousands of people's lives out there on the ocean," said Weinzierl.

The ship is due back in Tampa on Sunday morning, but the itinerary for Carnival Legend’s next voyage, a seven-day cruise departing Tampa Sunday afternoon, will be modified with Costa Maya replacing the call in Grand Cayman.

The other ports on the itinerary, including Cozumel, Belize and Mahogany Bay, Roatan, remain as scheduled.

Officials said the ship's safety systems and hotel services are all functioning normally.

Guests scheduled to sail on Sunday’s voyage have the option of cancelling and receiving a full refund or rescheduling for a future departure date if they prefer.

The Legend helped the previously crippled Carnival ship "Triumph" in February, delivering supplies to the ship.

Carnival Legend guests on the current voyage will receive a $100 per person credit and a full refund on pre-purchased shore excursions for Grand Cayman.  In addition, guests will receive 50 percent off a future Carnival cruise.
