Dozens of firefighters from several Bay Area communities battled a fire in an abandoned structur Wednesday night in Pinellas Park.

More than 25 units from Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg, Lealman and Seminole responded to the fire in the 8800 block of US Hwy 19 just before 10 p.m.

They responded to an initial call of smoke, but when they arrived they saw flames shooting out of the roof.

It took firefighters more than 90 minutes to get the fire under control.

It went to a third alarm around 10:35 p.m.

Due to heavy smoke, firefighters were delayed in finding the origin of the blaze.

They eventually said it ignited on the second floor of the building.

Firefighters say they kept finding hotspots that they needed to put out.

Crews from Sunstar crews were called in to evaluate firefighters after they had been in the smoky building for some time.

No firefighters were injured. There's no word on the amount of damage.

An insurance adjuster on the scene said that the owner is Hardy Huntley and Gateway LLC. Huntley also owns the Wagon Wheel Flea Market.

The building once housed a bank.

It appeared people lived inside the structure, although there was electricity in the structure.

No one was in the building when firefighters arrived.

The14,995 square foot building had a market value of $800,000 in 2012.

The investigation continues into how the fire started.
