A Lecanto woman died Thursday after troopers said she turned in front of an oncoming truck in Citrus County.

The crash happened 3:42 p.m. at the intersection of Kensington Avenue and East Gulf to Lake Highway in Inverness.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Bonnilea Mitchell, 67, had stopped on Kensington Avenue and was trying to make a left turn onto Gulf to Lake Highway when she drove into the path of an oncoming 2009 Ford F450.

The driver of the truck tried to avoid hitting Mitchell's Kia Optima by braking and swerving, but he was unable to do so, and the front of the truck collided with the left side of the Kia, the report said.

The Kia spun counter-clockwise across the road before coming to rest on the inside lane of Gulf to Lake Highway.  The truck ended up on the grass median.

Mitchell was taken to Citrus Memorial Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
