St. Petersburg police said they were forced to shoot a woman at her home on 13th Avenue N. when she pointed a gun at officers.
Police said the woman has died after an officer shot her in the chest.
"She pulled back the blinds and was standing there with a 38 special, pointing it at the officer when he fired," said Bill Profitt, SPPD.
According to reports, officers went to a home in the 2600 block of 13th Avenue North in St. Petersburg to check on a woman in her 50's around 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Police said the 53-year-old woman stood inside of the home near the back door, when she pulled back the curtain on a large window adjacent to the rear door and pointed a revolver at the back-up officer.
According to reports, one of the officers fired his handgun and struck the woman in the chest.
Police said a neighbor was concerned about the woman who had been acting strangely all day.
