Ask residents how dangerous is it to walk along Moog Road in Holiday and you'll hear tales of women pushing strollers in the street narrowly missed by drivers trying to squeeze by avoiding both pedestrians and oncoming traffic.

Rick Brown and his family have lived in eastern Pasco County for 20 years. He and his neighbors desperately want a sidewalk installed between U.S. 19 and Springfield Drive.

"There's a couple mothers that push strollers along and have another toddler holding them by the hand," Brown said.  "They're in the street, and all it takes is a slip, for the child to slip or something like that while they're in the road and a car doing 30 miles per hour. The speed limit is not the issue, it's they have no where to walk."

Millie Mercardo lives along Moog Road and said there has been a petition circulated in the past to have sidewalks installed.

"They tried to make a petition," Mercardo said. "Have people sign it. They still say that Pasco is working on it, but it's already been a year since then."

Robert Reck with Pasco County said this is the first request they've received for sidewalks along this part of Moog Road. He's offered to schedule a traffic study to determine if a sidewalk is necessary.

Should the numbers work out, Reck said there may be grant funding available to help cover the cost.
