A Hillsborough County grandmother has a love for knitting but for her, it is much more than a hobby.
Audrey Shustek, 82, has been hard at work of late, knitting as a way of helping a friend battling cancer.
Knitting is one way Shustek, of Sun City Center, keeps her hands busy and relieves arthritis pain.
Now she is using her longtime hobby to help a friend. Shustek is giving away a collection of sweater she made for cancer research on behalf of a friend who has a brian tumor.
Shustek offered 20 original, colorful baby sweaters to anyone willing to donate at least $2,000 to cancer research funding at Moffitt Cancer Center. And a Tampa attorney took her up on the deal, donating the cash for the sweaters.
"It really makes me feel good," Shustek said. "That I have done a little bit to help...and to help anyone who needs help."
A New York native, Shustek calls the cancer sweater project her labor of love.
"My philosophy is don't give until it hurts," she said. "Give until it makes you feel good."
