An 8-foot alligator managed to find his way into a drainage pipe in a neighborhood in Holiday.

If that wasn't a big enough problem, the gator got stuck.

"He's no little guy. His head is two feet, just his head," said neighbor John Salmieri Jr. "He took a wrong turn, an accident."

Neighbors believe the alligator was living in the nearby canal, which is connected to the pipe. They believe he swam in when the water level was higher and couldn't get back out.

They say they called different agencies for two weeks and finally FWC officers came out to the scene Tuesday. With help from Pasco County Public Works, they were able to get the grate off and pull the alligator out within an hour.

"Alligators naturally afraid of humans.  And anytime you can come up to an alligator and it doesn't try to flee away from you, you know there's something wrong," said FWC spokesperson Baryl Martin.  "He was very tight in there and it was very difficult to get him out."

But, they managed to do it safely and replace the grate. Neighbors tell us they're crossing their fingers for no more visitors in the drainage pipe.

The gator will most likely be put down due to its size, FWC officials say.
