It's the last hurrah for the St. Petersburg Pier.

Saturday, a daylong ceremony is taking place to celebrate the Pier's tenure as an iconic structure downtown.

The Pier is set to close at the end of the month to make way for a new structured called The Lens. But before that happens, a big goodbye party is taking place today.  Hundreds and maybe even thousands of people are expected to show up.

All of the pier's businesses will be open. Nearly 20 artists are set up outside selling their creations. There will also be a water skiing show, live music and a whole lot more.

The organizer, Local Shops 1, says the goodbye party is meant to bring the entire community together.

"The Pier is such an icon," said Mo Venouziou of Local Shops 1. "You have this controversy surrounding it. What to do next. It's all because people love the Pier. And they have different visions on how to keep the memories alive going forward.

"And we want every side to come together and just celebrate what we have. It's just  a way to bring everyone together and have a good time."

Festivities kicked off around midday. Around 6 p.m., there will be a toast to say goodbye to the one-of-a-kind landmark.
