Correct!

The tradition of the red poppies stems from Moina Michael, who in 1915 was inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields" to write a poem of her own. She then came up with the idea of wearing red poppies on Memorial Day to honor those who died while serving the nation during war.

In 1922, the Veterans of Foreign Wars became the first veterans' organization to nationally sell poppies. The tradition has since spread to other countries.
