A firefighter was injured Tuesday while battling a blaze that broke out in a Sugarmill Woods house.

The fire broke out shortly before 5:30 p.m. at the vacant house located on Village Center Circle.

The first crew forced their way into the house and searched the building for any possible victims. No one was inside the house at the time.

Officials said a secondary unit was delayed in responding because it was working another house fire in Floral City that was reportedly caused by a lightning strike.

As a result, all firefighters were pulled from the home and they began fighting the fire defensively.

Shortly after 6 p.m. the soffit collapsed on firefighters on the side of the house. One firefighter was injured.  He was taken to Oak Hill Hospital, where he was treated and released.

At 7:16 p.m. firefighters declared the fire under control. It was extinguished at 9:30 p.m.

Officials said the house, which was vacant and bank-owned, had reportedly seen "varying activity" over the last few weeks. They ask residents to be aware of activities in their neighborhoods.

Damage to the home was estimated at $209,000.

Investigators have not said what caused the fire.
