The criminal investigation into a violent confrontation that left one man dead in Bradenton has come to an end and no charges will be filed.

Bradenton Deputy Chief of Police Warren Merriman said the criminal investigation concluded and that detectives interviewed witnesses who were at the crime scene.

On June 8, 2013, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Bradenton Police officers responded to a home located in the 300 block of 20th St. East, for a complaint of kidnapping.

The victim of the kidnapping has been identified as Delisia Hairston, 37 was rescued and then treated and released from a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The deceased suspect has been identified as Craig Devon Rodgers, 40, who lives in the 300 block of 20th St. East in Bradenton.

Deputy Chief Merriman also identified Investigator John Morningstar, a six-year veteran, assigned to the Bradenton Police Department’s Detective Division, as the officer who had to resort to the use of deadly force against Rodgers following a violent confrontation in the 1800 block of Manatee Avenue East.

Investigator Morningstar has no remarkable use of force incidents, or disciplinary action in his personnel file. He remains on paid administrative leave, which is routine following the use of deadly force.
