Law enforcement officers Sunday in Pasco County captured a kangaroo that had been on the run for several hours.

No, really.

The kangaroo, which may have come from a local kangaroo farm, was first spotted Saturday night.

The sheriff's office released the 911 tapes on Monday. Several people called to tell authorities about the animal on the loose.

Deputies first contained it and put in a pen, but the feisty animal got away. Deputies then tried to tranquilize it four times and that didn't work, so they finally used a Taser on the kangaroo.

Even that didn't work.

At some point, a passerby helped and was able to grab the tired kangaroo. It is being held in a pen at 3816 Mickler Road in Lacoochee.

Captured on camera by a driver headed down US-301, the kangaroo dodged through traffic.

Yvonne Lafon couldn't believe what she saw.

"I’m in awe thinking, was that just a kangaroo in front of my car?? And then all the cops were running down the street.  It was definitely a traffic stopper," said Lafon.

"17 years of law enforcement and this is the first time I’ve had a kangaroo call," said Deputy Gene Smith. "I’ve never felt such power in my life. Those things are, they're strong."

The owners haven't been located, but deputies say there's a family living along Mickler Road that has a kangaroo farm. Those people have not claimed the kangaroo, though.

It is legal to own a kangaroo in the area with a special permit.
