Residents living near Busch Gardens have lodged complaints to the City of Tampa about construction noise.

Construction of a new high-speed attraction, Falcon's Fury is underway at Busch Gardens.

Because of safety concerns for workers and park guests, Busch Gardens officials say some construction is taking place while the park is closed, late at night and in the early morning hours.

Larry Ruch lives near Busch Gardens and recorded the sound of a pile driver at 3 a.m.

Another resident, Frances Valdes says the noise is waking her up at night.

"Have some consideration and respect for our sleep," Valdes said, "not just for their construction deadlines."

Based on multiple noise complaints, the City of Tampa has requested Busch Gardens contractors hire a third-party company to test noise levels during construction hours.

Thomas Snelling, Director of Tampa's Planning and Development Services, says if noise tests reveal an ordinance violation, mitigating factors would be required.

"That could be anything from operating the pile driving operation at differing times when they have allowance for a greater decibel level, or perhaps some sort of sound buffering or other kinds of engineering solutions," Snelling said.

So far, no noise ordinance violation has been determined.

Busch Gardens is responding to the noise complaints.

In a statement, spokesperson Travis Claytor said "Busch Gardens is working with area civic associations to maintain open lines of communication throughout construction of the ride. Additionally, we will continue to operate within all required noise ordinances for the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County."

The first phase of Falcon's Fury is expected to be complete by mid-August.

Test results from a third-party noise analysis could be returned to the city by early next week.
