Hillsborough County Sheriff's detectives are currently working a deputy-involved shooting that left the suspect, Justin Bryant, 25, in unknown condition after he was taken to Tampa General Hospital.

The incident took place just after 3 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of County Road 579 and E. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd. in Mango at the RaceTrac gas station.

Officials say that preliminary information reveals that the deputies were trying to serve an arrest warrant when Bryant spotted them and then tried to run them over in a stolen Lincoln Navigator.

They say two of the three veteran deputies fired back striking Bryant once in the chest.

None of the deputies were injured.

Deputies say they had gathered information that he was in the area and they trailed him to the gas station when, they said, he spotted them.

They were trying to arrest him for a total of four warrants, which includes two warrants for grand theft auto and two warrants for grand theft auto probable cause.

He now faces two counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle on a law enforcement officer.

Deputies call Bryant a career criminal, saying he has had 46 prior felony arrests.

The three deputies involved in the incident will be put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
