In special Labor Day spirit, a store in Sarasota County that sells only American-made products, is donating 20 percent of their profits on Monday.

US Mart in Venice is a modern day general store dedicated to products made in the USA. The store has decided to give back to Americans by donating 20 percent of their proceeds to the American Legion across the street.

“I love the fact when you buy things and know you are helping somebody here,” said Molly Kraut, Owner of US Mart.  “That’s a great feeling.”

Nella Valenti, who shops frequently at US Mart, said the fact that they sell only USA made products is a big attraction.

”I like to shop here because I know it’s made in America,” she said.  “I love that.”

Valenti, is from Italy, but feels it’s important to support the country she lives and works in.

Kraut, a full time veterinarian, opened US Mart, less than a year ago.

She said she has nothing against anything foreign products, she just wanted to give shoppers a better opportunity to buy American-made products.

“I’m totally about free enterprise and fair trade, but I think America can compete,” said Kraut.  “I want to try and give that opportunity because it isn’t the easiest thing to do to shop American.”

Kraut said she came up with the idea to start the store after having a difficult time finding products made in the USA.

“My father in law for years and years has been shopping American,” she said.  “He would drive store to store to find a box fan or whatever he was looking for that was American.”

It’s a shopping trip that’s no longer difficult for those in search of products made in the USA. Kraut hopes it’s an American store that will continue to grow.
