A school in Hernando County is going through some transitions and needs help getting ready for the new school year.

Eastside Elementary School needs help and teachers from other schools, retired teachers, parents and community members are volunteering their time.

"Whatever it takes we're here," said Jo Ann Hartge, the president of the Hernando Classroom Teachers Association.

New teaching materials are being organized as well as the school's media center is getting a makeover.

"This is about teachers sticking together and supporting one another," said Hartge.

An average of 20 volunteers have been showing up each day all week and they say they are not going anywhere until the school is ready.

But there are bigger problems at Eastside. The school got an F grade so principal Mary Le Doux has been brought in to fix things.

"Eastside will not be an F next year," Le Doux said. "It will not be an F."

She knows how to build an A school because she has done it in the past. Her plan is to keep a close eye on everyone and build a culture of accountability and excellence. She says the school needs to become a family.

"It can be turned around," Le Doux said.

Eastside is also getting some help from the district and state level. District leaders will come up with a turnaround option for the school and then submit it to the state.

State education officials will be visiting the school all year long.
