For the last 30 years Emily's Restaurant in Homosassa has been serving up more than just food.

It's a place to see old friends and catch up on the latest news. It's a community centerpiece. George Kanaris opened it up with his wife and father but says it's time to shut down.

Kanaris said he's seen people crying over the closing.

"In in the end it's a restaurant, but people get very emotional," he said.

The place holds a lot of memories for a lot of people. One memory few will forget is what happened to 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford. She was abducted and killed right down the road back in 2005. Emily's was the place to get the latest on the case or grab some coffee after an all night search. It was Jessica's favorite restaurant.

"This was Jessie's restaurant," Kanaris said. "She used to come here. She didn't even have to order. We knew what she wanted to eat."

Kanaris said Jessica's grandparents still stop by. Her grandfather just dropped off some fudge for everybody to say goodbye.

Charlotte Sharp remembers the Lunsford case. She and her husband have been eating at the restaurant for years. She has a lot of good memories too and wanted to have one more meal.

"We wanted to make sure we were here before they closed the doors," Sharp said.

Kanaris said the decision to close was hard but it is time to move on.

"For now I would just like people to be happy for us and know that we are going to take some long, overdue vacations," he said.

September 29th is the last day Emily's will be open.
