A Hernando County teacher was arrested after investigators said she had an affair with a 16-year-old boy.

Cynthia Herr, 35, is facing four counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Herr met the teenager through a relative. Detectives said she confessed to picking up the teenager on Aug. 24 in Citrus County, then driving him to a Hernando County motel, where they had sex.

The teenager confirmed that the pair were engaged in a "consensual, intimate" relationship, investigators said.

Investigators said they became aware of the situation when Herr told a coworker at John D. Floyd K-8, where Herr teaches ESE students, that she was involved in a relationship with the minor.  The coworker reported the information to school administrators, as required by law, which then triggered the investigation, officials said.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office initially investigated the case, as Herr lives in that county and it was not yet known where the alleged offense occurred.

The Hernando County School Board has been notified of Herr's arrest.  The district said they are conducting their own investigation, and that she has been removed from the classroom.

Herr was booked into the Hernando County Detention Center. Bond was set at $20,000.
