St. Petersburg Police have left the scene of some kind of explosion in downtown St. Petersburg.

Officials said the call came in around 4:20 p.m. regarding an explosion at 420 1st Street N. where a manhole was dislodged.

St. Petersburg Police spokesman Mike Puetz said the explosion turned out to be nothing “serious.”

Crews have left the scene. 

According to Duke Energy, a piece of underground equipment malfunctioned, causing a power surge that blew the manhole cover off on 1st Street.
