At the young age of 18, Lorenzo Bright has only been on the road for two years.

Bright wants to put the rules of the road he learned to obtain his drivers license to use every time he gets behind the wheel, but Bright says the "real" rules of the road are very different than those he was taught.

"It does feel like you're kind of like the little kid on the block and the big people are just pushing you around," he said. "You just have to deal with it."

Bright wants to know why so many drivers ignore the basic rules of the road.

That's a point very well understood by Sgt. Steve Gaskins of the Florida Highway Patrol.

"Throughout Florida last year we had 41 teens killed in traffic crashes throughout the state, so it's a serious issue," he said "Teen drivers are more likely than any other age category to be involved in a crash."

Bright asked Sgt. Gaskins how to handle the pressure he sees around him while continuing to drive safely.

"What you're doing is the right thing and that's what we would encourage," Gaskins said. "We want other drivers to pay attention to that as well."

The driving habits Bright and other teen drivers build now will help keep them safe, both now and in the future.

The Florida Highway Patrol reminds drivers to call *FHP (star 347) if you see or wish to report an aggressive driver.
