Holmes Beach City Commissioner David Zaccagnino hopes his new application will help bring an end to gridlock on Anna Maria Island.

The free application, available for iPhone completed a month of BETA testing and after two weeks of live use is showing promise. Zaccagnino said the Android version of the application should be available in about 30 days.

Zaccagnino's goal is to alert drivers to major delays on the two main roads leading to the Island. By seeing traffic delays before leaving the beach, residents and visitors alike can alter their plans to get in the car until the traffic subsides.

The idea was sparked by similar applications in other cities.

"There's a lot of towns that do this on the west coast or ski areas too," he said. "I thought, if they have it, why don't we have it?"

Zaccagnino's goal is to keep the application free to use, and to eventually add camera views of traffic on the beach.
